And last but not least, our long-awaited mentor dump! Take a look at what we’ve been up to 😼

A biggg shoutout to our CiC mentors! We couldn’t have done it without your enthusiasm, commitment, and technical expertise. All your hard work paid off, and our mentees are impressed and inspired by all of yall. (Disclaimer: all liming was done during lunch break)!

As our time at CiC came to an end, we wanted to look back on our memorable last day. Happy graduation to all our mentor groups! We’re so proud of all our mentees for entering a new era. We truly enjoyed working with everyone and wish them the best :)

All of our final presentations were awesome, but medsLit+ took home the gold! Learning all of that HTML, CSS, and JS certainly paid off, cause yall truly had some awesome presentations. We hope everyone takes a skill or two away from launch week, whether that be coding or presenting.

Thank you all for coming! We’ve sure formed a fun little group together.

Launch week 2026 was unforgettable! Let’s run through our events.

Bonding this week was something special. Bowling, arcade games, and exciting warm-ups. I stand on common ground with people who love CiC!

So much spirit within our CiC community! The whole rainbow showed up for color day, and we had many mentees dress like our beloved mentors. Sports day was sporting, too! World cup vibes were high.

Then, the mentor dunking… wasn’t that fun one! We appreciate our mentors totally volunteering to get dunked. What a soggy day. And shoutout to our karaoke king as well, what a show!

Week 3 was officially a success!

We started off strong with our lessons this week, continuing JavaScript, AI and Tech Ethics lessons! JS sure is challenging, but we’re making progress :)

For community building, we indulged in fun kahoots, and ended with a game of telephone - someone tell me how “mom’s making meatballs to munch” turned into “yes”… And happy birthday to those who celebrate!

We also visited the robotics lab! Anti-gravity, robotic dogs, and a vacuum suction arm were the highlights of our day.

Our guest speakers this week were engaging, and we learned a whole lot about their careers and projects, as well as making change in the world.

For college prep this week, we enjoyed a personal statement workshop and a financial aid info presentation. Helpful tools were presented and we went over the application processes necessary for higher education.

What a week! Much was learned and many laughs were had.

A peek into what our mentees were up to:

Field Trip to Microsoft: We started off strong with a visit to the Inclusive Tech Lab! Mentees explored the campus, met some amazing people, and learned all about accessibility in tech and work life at Microsoft.

Lessons: Our coding journey continued as everyone dove into JavaScript lessons, discovering how to bring their HTML and CSS projects to life with interactivity.

College preparedness: We looked closely at the senior year timeline and how best prepare your schedules and activities.

Community Bonding: We had so much fun bonding this week! Activities included Pictionary, paper airplanes, and even Jeopardy. We are so excited for even more fun activities next week!

Welcome Day - A warm welcome to our 2026 CiC Mentees! We had such a fun time introducing everyone to the program :)

Scavenger Hunt - Exploring campus and getting to know our surroundings, from the fountain to the Gates building!

Lessons - An engaging week of activities - wireframes, HTML and CSS presentations, and personal website exploration!

Community Building - Fun games, getting to know each other, making new friends and talking to mentors!

College Preparedness - Getting ready for the future exploring career opportunities and universities.

Changemakers in Computing

Changemakers in Computing (CIC) is a free summer program for Washington State high school students to learn about technology, society, and justice. CIC aims to increase the participation of economically disadvantaged, and/or future first-generation college students in computer science and engineering. The program is open to all rising juniors and seniors at Washington State high schools.
